<description>Several Washington State lights have sadly disappeared forever. Though time and elements have eroded away the physical structures, we must preserve their memory through historical pictures and documentation. Preservation also means we must strive to ensure no other lighthouses are added to the list of Lost Lights.

<description>Lime Kiln lighthouse is located on the west side of San Juan Island, the largest island of the archipelago. The lighthouse gets its name from the lime kilns built nearby in the 1860s. Beginning operations in 1914, it was the last major light established in Washington. In 1985, the lighthouse and surrounding sea were dedicated as a whale sanctuary and research station for marine mammal scientists. The scenic course started and finished at the historic Westport Maritime Museum over-looking Grays Harbor. 151 runners and walkers traveled the paved Westport Dune Trail along the Pacific Ocean through the State Parks. The unique course passed the 1898 Grays Harbor Lighthouse and finished next to the museum lens exhibit building – home of the magnificent 1st Order Destruction Island Lighthouse Lens. Special thanks to all participants and volunteers who make this event a reality. We look forward to you joining us for the 5th edition of our event, scheduled for Saturday, August 14, 2010.
