On October 12 2005, ownership of the 1881 West Point Light Station on Shilshole Bay was transferred to the city of Seattle. The transfer of the Lighthouse in Discovery Park was governed by the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act of 2000. The Washington Lightkeepers Association (WLA) and US Coast Guard organized a first-class tour of the USCG Buoy Tender, "Henry Blake" on July 24,2005.

In July 2005, the WLA and US Coast Guard coordinated a rare "open house" of Cape Disappointment Lighthouse-Washington State's oldest sentinel.

This was the inaugural WLA Director's forum held at Westport Washington in June 2005.
