"Run for the Light!" On August 5, 2006, WLA hosted a Fun Run/Walk in the beautiful coastal town of Westport. The scenic course started and finished at the historic Westport Maritime Museum over-looking Grays Harbor. Runners and walkers traveled the paved Westport Dune Trail along the Pacific Ocean through the State Park. The unique course passed the 1898 Grays Harbor Lighthouse and finished next to the museum lens exhibit building – home of the magnificent 1st Order Destruction Island Lighthouse Lens. On January 3, 2006, a contingent of twelve Lighthouse Environmental Programs volunteers and WLA members headed for Olympia to celebrate the debut of the new Washington Lighthouse License Plate. The first WLA Membership Meeting was held Nov. 12, 2005, at Fort Casey on Whidbey Island. The meeting was attended by over 100 lighthouse fans and society members. Tables were reserved for lighthouse group advertising. The agenda included a WLA Board of Directors report, lunch and the ever-popular raffle. Elinor DeWire narrated, "Lighthouses across America: An Armchair Tour of Our Nation’s Beautiful Sentinels." Admiralty Head Lighthouse was opened for a rare off-season tour.
