The Pacific Coast and Columbia River adjoining Washington and Oregon provides an astonishing display of Lighthouse and Maritime history. Ten Miles west of Astoria, are the remains of the "Peter Iredale." Ship-wrecked just south of the mouth of the Columbia River in 1906, the "Iredale" bears testament to the turbulent waters of this area, that warrant the continual reliance upon Aids to Navigation.(20nov03)
